Kaihoro - Mainheadskull (2004)

'Kaihoro was formed by Jaakko Heinonen and Lauri Pikka of Total Devastation . Neither one of them plays in Kaihoro, though. The band is composed of their friends, playing their favourite style of music: massive, epic and filthy metallic rock. Kaihoro is the house band of the Karhula scene, acting as a motor for their parties. Hidden from the eyes and ears of the larger public, Kaihoro is like an ugly hound locked in a backyard shed, unleashed only when proper racket is in order.

Another great band from Finland. Like the description says; massive, epic and filthy metallic rock.. Thanks to Harri!

Diablo Blvd. - The Greater God (2009)

Saw these guys tearing the place apart on a comedy show in Ostend last night (what a combination). I discovered this band a while ago through The Sludge Swamp, a somewhat 'funny' coincidence, since the frontman is Alex Agnew, a famous comedian here in Belgium. Anyhow, no jokes on this mighty album. With a COC inspired band name and Danzig approved vocals you can't go wrong, check it out! Artwork by Kris Martens (drums).

Gozu - Locust Season (2010)

'Seems like they came out of nowhere, and no, that’s not a slag on Boston. I just mean it seems like the four-piece formed in 2008 and got signed to Small Stone almost right off the bat. Now they’re finally giving the public a taste of their riffily metallic wares with Locust Season, offering a bit of East Coast aggressive crunch with the swaggering rock. It’s their first full-length, obviously, and as an introduction, it is driven with some surprisingly individual flourishes that add character to the songs and an overall nuanced feel only heightened by song titles like “Kam Fong as Chin Ho,” “Regal Beagle” and “Jan-Michael Vincent.”' -full review at The Obelisk.

And holy shit it rocks. Gozu from Boston, Massachusetts. Debut full-length, released on Small Stone records. Check it out!

The Hunter's Paw - Binocular Vision (2010)

'Created during the winter of 2010 in the city of Orlando, FL, the band now resides in Atlanta, GA. The Hunter’s Paw is the brainchild of guitarist Jesse Borsella (Bad Actor, Fumar, Alexandria). Known for mixing blistering speeds and crushing heaviness, harsh guitar and organ tones, smart lyrics and wailing vocals. Metal lives on.'

This one comes from Jesse. Not a big fan of the overall sound (somewhat artificial?) , but it certainly has a cool trippy weirdness, Eternal Elysium comes to mind. Maybe some of you will dig it, this is their third demo. Previous works can be found on last.fm.

Megachurch - Megachurch (2010)

Cleveland stoner metal act consisting of a drummer and two bassists. These 3 guys play some damn fine tunes, not your average instrumental music. Tongue-in-cheek stonery metal, for fans of Beehoover & Dragon Green (of course). Also check out thenoiseis.net for more info.

Doomriders - Black Thunder (2005)

Doomriders from Boston, Massachusetts. A solid piece of modern heavy metal mixed with fierce punk & stoner rock groove. Influenced by Motörhead, Entombed, Danzing,.. Nate Newton on vocals & guitar (Old Man Gloom/ Converge). In 2007 these gents made a split LP with the legendary Boris.

'Doomriders "Black Thunder", was recorded and engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge) @ Godcity Studios. Recorded primarily in a live setting, "Black Thunder" is a collection of thirteen unbridled songs filled with spontaneity and vigor. From the infectious hook of the title track, to the soul wrenching track "Voice of Fire", "Black Thunder" is as eclectic of an album as they come. Paying homage to their collective musical heroes, while boldly serving as a monster of an introduction to the independent music community.' -more info & press material on deathwishinc.com

Tona - 1000 (2008)

This one comes from George, from the Serbian 'Tona'.

'Coming from Novi Sad, the town in sleepy northern Serbia's province of Vojvodina, Tona started playing loud in summer 2005. Right from the start, this 5-piece aimed at creating versatile and original sound, combining the best of rock, metal and punk music of the last decades. Anything that can be combined into a powerful sonic blast is put into the band's cauldron and cast into a solid piece of rock, making the unique sound of Tona. The band just released their first full-lenght named 1000. The album is released for SKC NS, regional government sponsored label that aims to promote alternative culture in Serbia.'

Bamboo Diet - DSM-VI (2010)

'A futureproof manifesto of post-apocalyptic dementia and its subsequent violent treatments. The music was written over a two year period under the thick and pungent clouds of breweries and factories of the Montreal waterfront, and the resulting oeuvre is a fittingly paranoid statement on both music and its damaged psyche. Under glowing sheets of sound, courtesy of Terence Boisvert’s undulating and scintillating waves of reverb-drenched guitar, lies the obsessively interlocking work and aggression of Desmond Joanes’ bass and André Garant’s drums, destined to be one of the most rewarding rhythm sections working in music today. DSM-VI is relentless in its propulsive attack, reminicent of a more progressive Jesus Lizard, a more psychedelic Fugazi, or a more mathematical Melvins. Epic closer “A Lesson in Cold Conditions” is Bamboo Diet’s signature piece, encompassing the breadth of scope this band is getting known for; a dizzying array of post-hardcore riffage, noise rock textures and psychedelic progressive vocabulary, played with as much precision as abandon. A heavy and concise debut statement from the future of rock music in Montreal.'

Bamboo Diet is a hard-to-describe thing. Their music has a really angry, progressive touch with a garage-ish sound. Not alot of words here, let the music do the talking. Here's something special that's not for everyone.. Thanks to Desmond!

Spaceship Landing - Spaceship Landing (2005)

Named after a Kyuss song, Spaceship Landing is a german stoner/psychedelic/70’s inspired rock band. Their 2006 self-titled and self-financed lp is truly impressive. The instrumental sounds just huge, dominating the vocals. On some songs the sound is completed by keyboards/organs and spacecraft beeps. -last.fm

Rocket Chief - Rise Of The Machine (2010)

Dirty hot stoner rock 'n roll, just the way you like it.

'The debut RISE OF THE MACHINE (Release: 16.04.2010 on Fastball Music) by German five-piece band ROCKETCHIEF sets the standards for rough rock music in the new decade. Burning reminiscences from times when rock..n..roll was still young and steaming were the basis for 13 songs full of dusty sharp riffs, original psychedelic-licks and energetic headbanging. This record is alive and kicking, catchy as hell. When listening to the record, singer Freddy..s whiskey-soaked vocals are going straight into your ears. You can describe Rocketchief..s sound as "modern vintage" – Rocketchief are honest, direct and down to earth. In other words: you can hear real people playing real instruments and having a good time. And guitarist Stephan Galls who is an experienced musician (he was playing with the death metal band Misery Speaks, etc.)is not the only one who is responsible for the brilliant songwriting. Besides songs you can dance and mosh to the album offers smooth blues parts as well as "rolling stoner-avalanches". "RISE OF THE MACHINE“ will rock its way into the hearts of fans of Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Gluecifer, Volbeat, Down and QOTSA.'

Völva - Völva (2010)

Völva plays a vintage style of stoner/doom mixed with some deep psyschedelic elements. Heavy, downtuned Sabbathian riffs, occasionally with sludgy vocals in the likes of Eyehategod/ Weedeater. The lengthy last track (18 minutes) really smoked my brain with instrumentals reminicient of the hypnotic driven OM vibe. Aside from the great influences, Völva crafted a really honest & true sound. So go ahead & check out what Iceland has to offer with this piece of gloomy doom, you won't be disappointed..

Demonic Death Judge - Kneel (2010)

Send to me by Lauri, from the mighty 'Demonic Death Judge'. These Finnish guys know how to play raw straight-forward stoner/sludge. Actually there is more too it, the second song 'Beneath The Monument' drags you in a psychedelic Ufomammut-like bliss, some great original/ progressive parts in there (the last track 'Carlyle' is a winner with a hidden Led Zeppelin cover). Speaking of the Italian psyched-out doom legends, DDJ performs with them in Finland in a couple of days (see Myspace). Overall this is a great solid 6-track EP, packed with great influences (Electric Wizard, Eyehategod, Iron Monkey, Ufomammut,..).

Dead Commuter - Tendrils (2009)

Another band request (& more to follow), by Paul from 'Dead Commuter'. Raw US post-sludge duo with an atmospheric touch.

'…the duo plays weighty epics and in an age of three-four-minute grab-and-go tunes in most bands arsenals…DC’s hefty Neurosis/Sabbath/Botch influenced brawn requires that you give the band your full attention so that you can fully absorb how slot A fits neatly into slot W, then spirals back to match up with slot F and Q before everything lands squarely on the ground with a nerve shattering primal grunt…Dead Commuter plays brainy but uncompromisingly visceral music and approaching it without an open mind (or the ability to comprehend its circuitious emotional journey) is not advised. -last.fm
