The name The Red Coil is related to the concept of Kundalini the energy that resides in the subtle body and it’s traditionally represented as a sleeping serpent coiled at the base of the spine The awakening of Kundalini is a kind of Dante's journey where we pass from hell to the heaven discovering heaven and hell are a mirror image and only facing its animal spirit, the man can reach liberation. British Blues/ stoner rock formed in '99 by Bill Steer (Carcass, Napalm Death), heavy 70's influence. Currently signed to Rise Above records.

'Firebird came together in 1999 when Steer teamed up with Cathedral bassist Leo Smee and Spiritual Beggars drummer Ludwig Witt. Both bassist and drummer departed due to commitments with their primary bands before a 2001 European tour that saw Steer teaming up with Blind Dog bassist Tobias Nilsson and Quill drummer George Atlagic. In 2002 Steer announced yet another line-up consisting of drummer Atlagic and Quill and Spiritual Beggars bassist Roger Nilsson. This line-up recorded 2003's No. 3. Since then many line-up changes occurred but significantly Steer reunited with Witt on 2006's Hot Wings and have remained the core of the line up ever since.' -Wiki

The Grand Astoria - II [Radio Friendly Edit] (2010)

Second full-length from these distinctive Russian gentlemen. One impressive album that nails some really great tunes. I wasn't a huge fan of the vocal style on their first effort, but it seems they kinda 'fixed' it on this one. The weird spaced out vocals are still present, but the whole album consists of mainly an instrumental driven sound. The opening track 'Enjoy The View' just pulls you into the groovy psychedelic journey this album has to offer. From stoner/ desert rock to post-psychedelic jams. A really enjoyable album that comes highly recommended. Be sure to catch The Grand Astoria on EU tour in the upcoming months.

'Embracing the spirit of the second wave of post 70’s bands that defined the genre, England’s Witchsorrow echo the mournful cries of St. Vitus, Trouble, Candlemass, Revelation, Penance and more recent masters, Reverend Bizarre. This is about as unfashionable as it gets; no grim drone, post rock pap or ambient crap, Witchsorrow play unashamed Doom Metal in its purest form. As Nick confirms; “I wanted the band to be everything I loved about doom. I’d see a lot of bands in Vitus shirts around, but it was all feedback and sludge and screaming. I like that stuff, but there weren’t hardly any bands doing doom the way I loved it, doom METAL. Some bands try not to be associated with metal, whereas we’re nothing else! Fantastic psych/ space rock from Ohio, fully instrumental & definitely worth a listen;

'Secret Saucer started in 2001 with recordings for the first album - got together for one weekend in Ohio exactly - and jammed. Everyone picked up whatever instrument he felt like playing at the time. Even though it sounds like well thought-out song compositions the music is purely improvised coupled with some slight krautrock leanings. 4 songs were released as an EP first and the essence of the 12 hours lasting recordings was finally used for the first full album 'Element 115' which saw the light of day in 2005 released by the Dead Earnest record label. Two years later in 2007 the next production 'Second Sighting' followed taken from summer 2006 sessions. Another fine instrumental album full of cool spacey sounds.' -progarchives
