The term Samsara is derived from "to flow together," to go or pass through states, to wander. Mostly a great revolving door between life and death and a new life reincarnated cycle of life.

'Songs are dominated by a playful dual guitar work as well as a passionate blend of heavy psych, stoner and space rock. This is provided with several nuances and transitions in between - quite retro styled, jamming, even sometimes worked out with a repetitive hypnotic touch in the tradition of krautrock. The band produced two appetizer EP's and intensively toured Europe as well as the US-Westcoast in order to reach for the appropriate condition to record a full album.'-Official Website

In an interview the band stated that the famous cover art was inspired by the movie "The Wicker Man" but since they could not acquire the licence for the image affordably, they created their own straw figure for the artwork.'

'Before they evolved into a highly unique progressive metal outfit in the mid-'90s, Neurosis were your typical Bay Area post-thrash, post-hardcore hybrid. Wait a minute...maybe that's not so typical. Either way, the raw, undeveloped band that recorded the short bursts of hate and attitude contained on Pain of Mind in no way resembles the awesome trance-riff machine of later years. Sure, tracks like "Life on Your Knees" and "Grey" possess their peculiar charm, but with vocalist Scott Kelly usually screaming a tad too close to Slayer's Tom Araya for comfort, the best was certainly yet to come.' -AMG
